The Lowdown On Deodorant

Did you know that deodorant can be harmful to your health?

It’s further evidence that our every day lives are full of toxins.

You could drive yourself crazy trying to eliminate everything between the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the products we use everyday. It all adds up. It’s a big reason chronic and deadly diseases are at their highest levels in years.

I feel like I need to share what I have learned in the past year about deodorants and anti-perspirants.

Sweating is a natural and necessary bodily process. It helps the body detox from heavy metals and harmful BPA’s. It’s also how our body regulates temperature.

Deodorants work to neutralize odor while still letting the body sweat.

Anti-perspirants prevent sweating and frequently use ingredients like aluminum to clog the sweat glands and prevent this necessary process.

You can understand why the combination of shaving and underarm exposure to aluminum-based compounds are being researched as a contributor to breast cancer incidences. The underarm area is alarmingly close to the lymph nodes.

When I read and listened to the information I immediately went and checked the 6-pack of deodorant I had bought from the store. Sure enough the second ingredient listed was aluminum. I determined I didn’t want to take the chance.

I’m proud to be associated with a company who has spent 5 years perfecting a clean version of deodorant without any potentially harmful ingredients. Synthetic fragrances also come with significant health risks and this formula is free from those harmful ingredients. I appreciate a company that is transparent about what’s in its products.

What can you do to make sure your risk is minimized?

The best thing you can do to help yourself is download the EWG app and check your brand of deodorant for the level of risk associated.

Here’s the bad news if you’re switching to a clean deodorant. You could actually have to deal with a stronger odor during the transition. To help this process you can also use charcoal products to detoxify your armpits to help unclog the sweat glands. This process can take up to three weeks. Kind of scary what’s been kept in your pores for so long.

The preservation of the environment is also a main concern for Beautycounter and the new Clean Deo. The product is refillable and sustainable. It reduces water. fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions by 47%.

The good news is I have noticed many local stores taking the initiative to have some cleaner product options on their shelves.

We can’t eliminate all the toxins in our lives but this is an important one so add a clean deodorant to your routine.
